Posted: December 8, 2010
The Hanoverian licensed stallion Wolkentanz I passed away unexpectedly in the evening of 14 October 2010. The chestnut stallion by Weltmeyer x Ludendorff suffered from a rupture in his intestines and had to be euthanized. "Wolkentanz was of great significance as foundation sire at the State Stud and at stallion station Aurich he stamped for years the Hanoverian breeding area," said a spokesman of the Landsgestut Celle.
Stable manager Jürgen Ilper discovered an ill Wolkentanz I in his stall at Aurich and transported the horse to the equine clinic, where he unfortunately had to say goodbye to him.
Bred by Gerd Lühr in Borgholzhausen, Germany, Wolkentanz I was the 1993 Hanoverian Licensing Champion and he become Bundeschampion in 1996 under Ole Köhler. More than twenty-two of his offspring are successful at S-dressage level. Wolkentanz has a dressage breeding value of 152 which made him one of the most significant top stallions. He sired 102 state premium mares and 21 licensed sonds.
